A day after the arrest of the terrorists who planned a terrorist attack was revealed: Greek media published new details today (Wednesday) about the identities of two of the terrorists who planned to carry out the attack at a Chabad restaurant in Athens.
The terrorists are Saki Hussein and Haider, aged 29 and 27, and were arrested by Greek security forces on February 15. They lived in Zakynthos and Sparta, without legal permission to stay in Greece.
According to the publications, the leader of the cell lived in Tehran, while the attack itself was to be carried out by two citizens from Pakistan, in exchange for a payment of 16,000 euros for each person murdered.
The two arrested terrorists will be brought before the court on charges of terrorist offenses, while the person suspected of planning the attack and residing in Iran will be tried in absentia on terrorism charges.
According to police sources, the leader of the cell, 30 years old, sent a picture of the Chabad house to the two attackers, who identified the location, filmed a video of it - and sent it to the leader of the cell.
According to reports, the plan was to flood the restaurant with poison gas while it was crowded with at least 50 people. The Iranian cell leader also demanded to fill the "Jewish store" with explosives and weapons.
The problem they faced was finding reliable people in the criminal world to supply them with weapons. The terrorists were reportedly put under immense pressure by the head of the cell in Tehran to act quickly. He even told them that if they did not find the weapons to carry out the massacre in the restaurant, they would use gas cylinders to create a huge explosion, in an attempt to cause as many casualties as possible,
The Greek intelligence service tracked the terrorists' movements and, after their arrest, found the detailed plans for the attack they planned to carry out.
During the search of their homes, more than ten mobile phones, memory cards, and two computers were found. Investigators found photos, videos, and messages sent between members of the terrorist cell - which also included plans to kidnap and murder Israeli citizens.
Among the videos found on the phones were videos of Israeli citizens entering a restaurant at the Chabad House.
According to estimates, the method of attack changed several times.
It was also reported in the Greek media that the police are currently investigating everything that happened during the attackers' stay in Greece, who spent most of their time at home in the city of Ilion, a town in the western suburbs of Athens.
It is estimated that dozens of other Pakistanis were questioned by the police, but no evidence of their involvement was found. The police are still trying to find out whether additional people were involved or recruited in carrying out the attack.
The Israeli Mossad assisted the Greeks and provided them with information that helped arrest the two terrorists and reveal additional information about the planned attacks, including contacts they had made with Iranians who were behind the planning of the attack.
