Spreader of hatred: Ehud Barak accuses "crazy" ministers in Netanyahu's government of striving to destroy the Al-Aqsa Mosque - and initiate a war against the religion of Islam.
In an interview he gave to Chatham House, the Royal Institute for Foreign Affairs in London - and quoted on Channel 7 - Barak said that the Palestinian issue should be postponed as long as there is a danger of implementing the reform of the judicial system, which, he said, could turn Israel into a dictatorship.
According to him, "The pressing issue is whether we will become a democracy or a dictatorship. If we become a dictatorship or a partial dictatorship, we, the free people, the liberal democrats in Israel, will not be able to influence reality.".
Barak added: "These people, the crazy ones, the hypocrites that I mentioned (Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir), they are thinking of turning the conflict with the Palestinians, which revolves around territory and political aspects, and they are doing it happily and I cannot understand it, into a significant religious war between Israel and (the religion of) Islam, and they are ready to destroy everything there on the Temple Mount, and to implement something like old traditions, traditions of the Torah of slaughtering goats and sheep for sacrifices.".
