A senior Likud official claims that MK Dodi Amsalem did not accept the position of Knesset Speaker only because he gave Prime Minister-designate Benjamin Netanyahu an ultimatum. This was reported this morning (Thursday) in Israel Hayom.
""Netanyahu wanted to give him the job, but the ultimatum left him no choice," the source said. "You can't threaten and accept. Netanyahu didn't give in to ultimatums. Amsalem issued an ultimatum and didn't accept. Danny Danon issued an ultimatum and didn't accept. Yisrael Katz didn't speak, didn't utter a word, didn't threaten, and was offered the foreign ministry.".
At the meeting to approve MK Amir Ohana's candidacy for Knesset Speaker, MK Amsalem, who did not receive his request to serve as Knesset Speaker or Minister of Justice, asked to speak.
Yariv Levin asked him to finish his remarks and Amsalem, according to those present at the meeting, shouted in the direction of Netanyahu and Levin: "Let me speak, don't do whatever you want here.".
Tempers flared and Amsalem and David Bitan attacked MK Yoav Kish, who also tried to silence them - telling him: "Sit quietly, who are you anyway?".
