Firefighters and volunteers from the Yehuda Regional Station worked this evening (Thursday) on a fire that broke out in an apartment on Noam Elimelech Street in the Haredi city of Beitar Illit.

Reshef Avi Ben Sa'adon, the shift commander, said: "This evening, firefighters from the Yehuda Regional Station and the Betar Elite volunteer unit were dispatched to a fire in an apartment. The volunteer unit that arrived first on the scene began operations to extinguish the fire.

""The firefighters, who joined shortly after, worked to release heat and smoke from the apartment.".

Initial investigation by the residents indicates that the menorah was placed behind the balcony door, and the wind knocked it onto the curtain - and from there the fire spread.

""We have three more days ahead of us in which we light candles," the fire department says. "Therefore, we ask in every possible way: adhere to the safety instructions.".

????Lighting candles by children should only be done under adult supervision.
????It is forbidden to leave a Chanukah menorah lit unattended! Make sure to extinguish the candles before leaving the apartment or going to bed.
????It is forbidden to light Hanukkah candles near flammable materials such as curtains, cabinets, and tablecloths.
????Menorahs made of flammable materials are prohibited. These may burn as the candles burn out.
