To hear the sound of a shofar: We went out onto the streets of a city to see and hear the month of Elul, in the Geula neighborhood of Jerusalem.
Dozens of shofars in stores, waiting for a kosher and decent owner to come and take them off the shelf, for the sanctity of Yom Tov, to be used on Rosh Hashanah and to remember the sacrifice and the binding of our forefather Isaac.
We found the father who buys shofars for his sons, checks and tests, bangs and cheers, and in the end comes out with shofars the size of a palm.
There was the old shofar maker, who was wandering around looking for a new shofar but one with a clear voice.
And the Rosh Yeshivah Shetar, after blowing a shofar, will shake the veins hidden in the hearts of his students.
In the heart of Mea Shearim, we found the vendors who agreed to show us how the sound of the great shofar sounded in the store, but inside the store we couldn't hear their sound, so we went out onto the street of a city to hear the blowing of the shofar in the month of Elul.
