Senior Shas officials made it clear this morning (Monday) that until the law is enacted that allows party chairman Aryeh Deri to be appointed as a minister, the swearing-in of a new government will not take place.

According to a report in Kan News, the same senior officials said that the words were also conveyed to Likud members - and it was made clear to them that only after the law is finally approved, that is, in the second and third readings, will it be possible to hold the swearing-in ceremony for the new government in the Knesset, and not before.

This is a change to the Basic Law of the Government, which requires a discussion and legislative process that will last at least several days, mainly due to the fact that it is a Basic Law and approval in four readings, as it begins with the preliminary reading.

According to the bill submitted by MK Moshe Arbel of Shas, the Basic Law of the Government will be amended and will stipulate that a prison sentence entails disgrace and disqualification from ministerial office - only when it involves an actual prison sentence and not in the case of a suspended sentence, as was imposed on Deri.

According to a report in Maariv, Shas has reached agreements with Likud on all issues except the issue of conscription. Likud refuses the demands presented by Ariel Atias, a member of Shas's negotiating team, to pass a law similar to the Tal Law. Likud is interested in promoting a conscription law that includes targets, but Shas is vehemently opposed.

Likud Chairman Benjamin Netanyahu and Religious Zionist Chairman Bezalel Smotrich will meet again today, as part of coalition negotiations to form a government. This follows the breakthrough achieved in their meeting tonight.

The chairwoman of the Religious Zionist faction, MK Orit Struk, told the Galatians that she believes an agreement will be signed soon.

According to her, "The finger-pointing phase is behind us, we are in the stage of serious talks. I believe we will reach agreements. There are technical questions that will be resolved soon.".
