Niv Keshet, a soldier who was injured 17 years ago while defending the Land of Israel as a fighter in Qalqilya by a suicide bomber, married his wife Shahar, a rehabilitation worker at the Ministry of Defense, in a moving wedding on Sunday - which was led by Chabad emissary Rabbi Menachem Kutner.
In recent years, since he was injured, Keshet has maintained a close and warm relationship with the emissary, who accompanies those whom the Lubavitcher Rebbe, zt"l, called "outstanding IDF figures," throughout the year.
During the wedding, after Rabbi Kutner's introductory remarks, in which he said he was particularly excited to lead such a wedding, the groom stopped the conversation and asked for the microphone.
When he accepted, he told the crowd of guests who had arrived at the chuppah that he wanted to give the rabbi a hug.
The two quickly hugged, with the entire audience cheering.
Keshet was injured on Rosh Hashanah Eve by a terrorist. "I saw a suspicious figure," Keshet recalled, "I wasn't sure if it was a terrorist. He told me I had to enter the country. He knew where he was going, he spoke properly. By the time I realized where he was going - he pressed a button. He had an explosive belt on him.".
Rabbi Kutner said: "Thank you to the Creator for the privilege of being a part of especially happy moments and of conducting the moving wedding of the lovely Niv and Shahar.".
