The decision by Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister, Gali Baharav-Miara, to postpone the appointment of a permanent commander for the IDF Signals until after the elections and the inauguration of the government - drew harsh criticism from media figures.
The committee to find a new commander for Galei Tzahal recently selected Or Tzelkovnik, CEO of the 103FM radio station, as the station's next commander. He was a former Galei Tzahal soldier and also served as VP of Development for Radio 99.
Yossi Yehoshua, the military correspondent for Yedioth Ahronoth, tweeted on his Twitter account: "In what world do we live if an excellent candidate to lead the GLATC like Or Tselkovnik is willing to leave an excellent station and good conditions, but the Attorney General rejects the appointment even though it was made by a professional committee, without political interference?"'
Avishai Greenzig, the legal commentator for 'Globes', wrote: "Even according to the logic of Attorney General Barhav Meyara, her judgment is unfounded, in light of the fact that this is a transitional government on the one hand, and in light of the fact on the other that the search committee chose Tselkovnik and not Gantz's candidate who has been serving as deputy prime minister for a year without any search committee, but as a direct appointment of Gantz. The conclusion should be a temporary appointment of Tselkovnik.".
He added: "The fact that Galit Altstein, the acting commander of the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation, continues to change the status of journalists and the identity of the program presenters even after the search committee recommended another person for the position - this is completely out of the question. But there are no expectations, so there are no disappointments.".
Amit Segal, the senior political commentator for News 12, commented on the conduct of the deputy commander of the Israeli Defense Forces: "Simply unparalleled audacity. And it would be great if these were brilliant moves, but as we know - in a place where politicization flourishes, popularity will not grow.".
'Haderech' journalist Shimon Liberty: "'Gantz wants to appoint a chief of staff - fine, we'll allow him during an election period. Gantz doesn't want to appoint a commander wave"C "Okay, let's say we postpone it during an election period. Gali Bahar, please explain, at your command.".
Yotam Zimri responded: ""Chief of Staff, yes, Commander. wave"C not...""
Kfar Chabad editor Rabbi Aharon Dov Halperin tweeted: ""It can be said, and rightly so, that the attorney general is not loyal to the rule of law, but she is absolutely loyal to Saar and Gantz, who agreed to save him in the elections in one week. Approve the appointment of a Chief of Staff during an election period, approve a military operation without the cabinet, extend the appointment of the commander at Gantz's request wave"C, "Authorize the investigation of journalist Eli Zipori.".
