A vehicle with a one-and-a-half-year-old toddler inside was stolen today (Saturday) from a gas station on Highway 6 heading south, near Wadi Ara.

The investigation into the incident revealed that the mother of the one and a half year old boy, a resident of Rosh HaAyin, stopped the car and got out while it was moving and placed her son inside. The thief, who noticed the moving vehicle, got into it and drove towards Samaria.

According to a report in Israel Hayom, the baby's father told police investigators: "We returned from a trip and stopped at the gas station to freshen up. The child fell asleep and we were stuck in the car with my brother-in-law. I went with the middle son to the bathroom for a moment. My wife and brother-in-law were next to the car, it was fast. Apparently in a second of inattention, the thief got into the car. The car moved, at first I thought it was my brother-in-law, then I realized it wasn't him. I managed to chase the car and knock on the windshield, and the thief kept going. I fell and rolled. It felt like an eternity. I thought the child was gone.".

Upon receiving the report of the theft, police forces were called to the scene and the Central District Police Headquarters activated all technological means, with the aim of locating the vehicle's location and the direction of traffic, along with deploying numerous checkpoints in the area.

Upon receiving the indication that the vehicle was within the Authority's territory (Area A), a request for assistance was forwarded to the Menashe Regional Police Headquarters, until the vehicle with the baby inside was located.

IDF forces, in cooperation with the Samaria Police, found the toddler unharmed in the village of Pharoun, located near Tulkarm in Samaria.

The baby was returned to his parents safe and sound, and the investigation into the car theft was transferred to the Menashe area police.
