According to a report on the Haaretz website, Israel hit hundreds of Iranian drones in the attack in question. In direct response to the broadcasters' statement that Israel and Iran are in the middle of a war, which they simply did not inform the civilians about, Ben Eliyahu said: "We are actually in the middle of a war, a battlefield is being waged here." He added: "This is a war that also uses advanced technologies and this is such caution, it's like walking on tiptoe. At the time, in Lebanon, when we had friction with Hezbollah and both sides feared a deterioration, they would, for example, fire a rocket that fell on the border line, to show that there was a response, but that we would have no reason to respond. Now, this whole campaign, where we are in Lebanon and they are indirectly responding in other places, is all bypass patents to avoid a direct deterioration, but in any case to demonstrate a presence on the battlefield. A battlefield is being waged here, there is nothing to talk about. In diplomacy, in policy, in technology, and on the ground." The former Air Force Commander said: "In the whole story in question, there are two new dimensions that cannot be ignored. One is the variety of drones that the Iranians have, and the second is the approach. When drones were invented 30-40 years ago, it was a single drone, here and there, we were dealing with targeted interception. Slowly over the years, this has taken a large place in the air force's overall strategy, in the Israeli air force and in air forces in general. We are talking about huge quantities that are intended to destroy, to collect intelligence, to be sources of air defense, to deceive on the battlefield, literally covering the entire battlefield. There is truly a huge variety of technologies here in this entire area." He claims that while the world is looking at the Iranian nuclear program, Iran is also focusing on developing technologies: "It's very impressive. Among the variety, there are also those that fly very long distances. It really covers the entire spectrum of possibilities in drones. They shot down an (American) drone that also has stealth features, which they copied one by one.".
