Following the earthquakes that struck the area last week: As part of the Home Front Command's activities to improve warning, guidance, and information capabilities for the Israeli public, a new earthquake warning system will be activated starting today (Sunday).

In recent years, the National Emergency Authority and the Geological Survey have installed a network of seismic detectors throughout the country - the "Taroea" system - which allows for the identification of an earthquake at its inception.

This system was connected to the Home Front Command's warning system, to provide the public with rapid warning of the occurrence of an earthquake.

Public alerting through the media provides life-saving warning and guidance to the public, who can take life-saving defensive action to protect themselves and their loved ones.

These are the steps for implementing the system in the media:

• First stage - today (Sunday) - An earthquake warning will be given only on the Home Front Command app and on Home Front Command sirens deployed throughout the country. At this stage, an earthquake warning will be activated on the media (television, radio, internet) only in a national earthquake scenario: "Earthquake - throughout the country.".

• Phase Two - End of February - Earthquake warning capability will be added to the media through a regional indicator: "Earthquake - in some areas of the country.".

• Phase Three - End of April - Earthquake warning capability will be added to the media at each activation and by region: "Earthquake - Haifa/ Safed/ Beit Shean.".
