The Chief Rabbis of Israel, Rabbi David Lau and the Rishon LeZion, Rabbi Yitzhak Yosef, are issuing a joint and strong letter today (Wednesday) against the 'kashrut reform' that was approved by the Religious Services Committee.
The Chief Rabbis define the new outline: "The destruction of kashrut, which expresses a trend towards uprooting the Jewishness of the State of Israel.".
The Chief Rabbis also call for an immediate halt to this process, and also call on the rabbis of Israel to stand firm and not provide kashrut in a place where they have not been authorized to do so by the Chief Rabbinate Council.
And this is what the Chief Rabbis wrote in their letter:
""The decision on the new kashrut outline that was adopted is the destruction of kashrut and expresses a trend to uproot the Jewishness of the State of Israel, another step towards turning the State of Israel into a state of all its citizens.".
Anyone with eyes in their heads sees the raising of the hand in the Torah of Moses as a deviation from the path outlined for us by the great men of Israel, the founders of the Chief Rabbinate, led by Maran Ha-Grai'a Kook, zt"l, and Maran Ha-Rishon Le-Zion, gari'i Meir, zt"l, and the chief rabbis of their generations, whose path was to establish a Jewish state in the Land of Israel.
The spiritual destruction under the guise of reform is a blindfold, after which who will correct us?.
In the chambers of the conspirators of change, additional voices are already echoing regarding matters of conversion and marriage outside the framework of the Chief Rabbinate, which will inevitably lead to the separation of communities in Israel. Maintaining the unity that was the soul desire of the founders of the Rabbinate is being cut with iron blades.
We are filled with anxiety about what is to come, and we call out: Keep your hands off the holy places of Israel! Matters of law and religion are entrusted to the rabbis of Israel. It is unthinkable that they would arbitrarily destroy an entire building in order to please certain elements.
Out of a heavy responsibility to the people of Israel and the Land of Israel, we call for this process to be stopped immediately.
We call on all rabbis of Israel to stand in the breach, to feel the responsibility placed upon your shoulders, to know that on our shoulders lies responsibility for the existence of the Jewish community in the Land of Israel, and no entity has the right to establish laws that are against the laws of our Holy Torah.
We call on the rabbis of Israel not to allow a rabbi to provide kashrut outside of a place authorized for this purpose by the Chief Rabbinate of Israel.
The rabbis of Israel who continue the sacred path from generation to generation will maintain their right to express the word of God without fear or intimidation.
