The five detainees are residents of the village of Lakia in the Negev. They are suspected of involvement in an attempted lynching of three drivers during violent riots that occurred during Operation "Guardian of the Walls" on Highway 6, located near their village.

The attempted lynchings occurred during widespread riots and were actually carried out in front of three Israeli vehicles that were moving on the road.

In the first vehicle that was attacked, a Jewish woman was driving and was pelted with stones. After being rescued by a truck driver who was at the scene, her vehicle was set on fire.

In the second vehicle that was attacked, a Thai foreign worker driver was pelted with stones. After the vehicle was stopped, the driver was removed and violently attacked. The perpetrators then set his vehicle on fire. The driver was released only after the attackers realized that he was not Jewish and he was taken for further medical treatment.

In the third vehicle that was attacked, the driver, a Jewish citizen, was pelted with stones while in the vehicle, and an attempt was made to forcefully remove him from the vehicle. The driver was rescued when police arrived at the scene and transferred for further medical treatment.

Upon completion of their investigation, indictments were filed with the Beer Sheva District Court accusing them of serious offenses.

The Shin Bet said: "The General Security Service and the Israel Police view with great seriousness any involvement of Israeli citizens in terrorist activity, and will continue to work to bring to justice those who act to harm the security of the country's citizens.".
