The weather today (Sunday) will be warmer than usual with a further increase in temperatures. Heavy rain is expected in the mountains and inland.
The coastal plain will also be hotter than usual and steamy. Temperatures are expected to reach 48 degrees today in the Jordan Valley, 46 degrees in Tiberias and the Sea of Galilee, 40 degrees in Safed, and 38 degrees in Jerusalem and the lowlands.
The extreme weather is expected to continue on Monday and will be humid - with the heat stress continuing in most parts of the country.
On Tuesday, a slight drop in temperatures is expected and the weather will become more comfortable, although it will still remain warmer than usual.
On Wednesday, there will be further cooling, although there will be an increase in humidity and the heat load will still be felt well.
Forecaster Sharon Wechsler of Kan News said on Radio 103 that temperatures will ease on Tuesday and Wednesday, but it will also be hotter than usual there. All of this is in preparation for the prolonged warming and heavy rains at the end of the week.
The Ministry of Health has published recommendations for dealing with the heat wave, along with a request to adhere to the following procedures:
- During the afternoon and hot hours, it is recommended not to leave the house and stay in an air-conditioned place.
- Bathing in cold water helps lower body temperature if it is not possible to turn on an air conditioner or fan.
- Avoid going outside during hot hours and limit outdoor activities to the evening or morning hours.
- If you must go outside, be sure to wear a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
- Drink plenty of cold water or other soft drinks: the amount of water required per day is 8-10 glasses, even without feeling thirsty.
- People suffering from cardiovascular disease, obesity, or other diseases should be careful and follow the guidelines even more closely.
