Media personality Sivan Rahav Meir, who won the Ministry of Education's tender to host the World Bible Quiz for Jewish Youth, replacing Dr. Avshalom Kor, announced to the Ministry of Education this morning (Monday) that she had decided not to host the quiz.
In a letter she sent to the Ministry of Education this morning, with a copy to Education Minister Naftali Bennett, Rahav Meir wrote:
""I thank you for choosing me to host the quiz on the upcoming Independence Day, but on second thought, it seems I won't be able to respond to it in this way.".
I probably didn't think about it enough in advance, but both the way and the message have been bothering me for a few days now: the way in which Dr. Avshalom Kor's work as the quiz show host was terminated (I didn't know he wanted to continue, and I certainly didn't know that he would be notified of the termination of his work on the show, after 28 years) and also the very message of replacing a host who had become a real brand.

Avshalom Kor has hosted the global quiz for the past 28 years - starting in the 1980s. This year, the Ministry of Education took over responsibility for the quiz and its management from the IDF Education Corps.

גורמים במשרד החינוך ציינו כי קור השתתף במכרז, אולם ההצעה שהגיש הייתה יקרה יותר מההצעה הזוכה, אותה מסרה רהב-מאיר.
