Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat and his wife stood at the Tower of David Museum this morning for over three and a half hours, shaking hands with visitors in honor of Jerusalem Day.
Among those present at the reception were rabbis, including the Kabbalist Rabbi Nahum Cohen and Rabbi Arthur Schneier, public figures and many Haredim. An Arab sheikh also came to greet him. Afterwards, the sheikh told the Haredim10: "I believe in peace and I want there to be peace. I am not a citizen of any country. I have flown all over the world, and I believe that Jerusalem belongs to everyone.".
The mayor surprised everyone this year by having a guy stand by, in addition to the city's photographer, Jackie Levy. The guy made sure to take everyone's phone that approached the mayor - and took a picture of it. That way, everyone got photos online, without having to look for someone to take a picture of them with the mayor.
At the end, Barkat did not forget to call the team of municipal inspectors who were there to maintain order - and took a picture with them.
The mayor told a Haredim10 reporter at the end of the event: "I was most excited to meet the kindergarten children who came to the venue. I am also not surprised by the many Haredim and rabbis who came to bless. 'This is Jerusalem' in all its variety and quality.".
In the gallery you will see the Tower of David from the inside, the flag dance tours of religious Zionists, and the magnificent view of the Old City, which spreads out from the observation deck at the Tower of David.
