Does the Gabbad of the Haredi Eda, the Griot Weiss, oppose the Hasidism of the Toldot Aharon? It depends on who you ask.
• For the special channel: Celebrating Lag BaOmer among the Haredim 10
This year, government ministries budgeted for the Rashbi celebration in Meron, with permits issued due to disasters that occurred in previous years, and the Ministry of Tourism funded the event. Frenchies Safely.
Those who encountered a dilemma are the zealots from the Mea Shearim neighborhood: Hasidim Toldot Aharon, which boycotts the budgets of the Zionist state, holds two lighting ceremonies on Lag BaOmer: one in Jerusalem, on the night of Lag BaOmer; the second in Meron, at sunset, at the end of the Day of Rejoicing, in the lighting ceremony that concludes the events on the mountain, attended by tens of thousands of people.
Following the injection of government budgets, extremist elements raised a demand that due to the expropriation of the Rashbi site by the Zionist state, entry to the site should be prohibited or at the very least, the services provided by the state on the site should not be used. The issue was widely discussed in these circles, but in practice, tacit consent was given to move it to the agenda, and the Hasidic sects, which are considered fanatical, decided to use the franchises that were established with state funding.
However, today at noon (Friday), a letter was published by the Rebbe of Mishkenot HaRoim, known for his views against the state, claiming on behalf of the Gabbad of the Haredi Eda, the Grand Vizier Weiss, that the use of French is prohibited.
Thus the Rebbe writes: "What is being published in my name that I allowed the Farnese to rise in the Hilula of the Darshbi in Meron, which the authorities built - this is not true. On the contrary, every single person who does not rise in the Hilula of these Farnese deserves to be imprisoned, since he does not come from a holy and pure place.".
""I, the undersigned," writes the Rebbe, "heard this from our Master, Rabbi Gav"d Shlita, on Thursday, the 15th of Iyar, 5774.".
The Toldot Aharon Hasidic community refuses to comment officially, but from a conversation with a senior Hasidic official, it is understood that the lighting will take place as usual. The Hasidic community believes that if the Gavd wanted to prevent the use of French, he would convene a discussion in the Badatz of the Haredi Eda, with the participation of all members of the Badatz - and an official decision would be made. In a statement that was later distributed, it was written on behalf of the Gavd that if the state is paid for the use of French, "there is no room for prohibition.".
