Making a splash in Machniuda: From Burstein to Itamar Ben-Gvir

Haredim 10
May 11, 2014
Meir Weiner returned to Israel. Who waited for him for a month? • Who bothers in the busy market to take care of his yeshiva students even on Shabbat? • What is the dilemma that arose between the supervisor and the shopkeeper - and how does it relate to us? • How many hands does Itamar Ben Gvir have? • And what exciting Jewish product is found only in a side alley of Machniuda?

Corner of Torim Street. As the sages say: This comes in its own way and that comes in its own way.

We met Moshe Hasfar in the market. Half of the yeshiva boys in Jerusalem get their hair cut at his place. What happened, no work? "Wait until Lag BaOmer. In the meantime, I'm shopping. We don't have such a market in Ma'ale Adumim.".

At the salad shop, three Jews stood wandering among the shelves of the refrigerator. The small print seemed to confuse them less than the 10 names that can be given to coleslaw in different variations.

Such a family. A small group that went for a Friday walk in Machnihude, with the market's legendary guide Elazar Shomron accompanying them with a relaxed smile. We wanted a picture of the father and son. We got it.

Benjamin Mahlab needs no introduction. A man of many actions who these days has set up a shed and a spiritual and therapeutic hostel for about 25 boys. Yehuda Rubinstein met him at a security guard's block. They chatted briefly and each went his own way. Rubinstein disappeared with his Pacifiers among the colorful bast shoes, and we will meet Mahlab again later.

Moshe Assolin, a member of United Hatzalah, arrived with his wife for some quick shopping. To a question from Mr. Pitzuhim, Assolin replied: My wife is the one who decides. "So why did you come with her?" he asked. "Oh, the atmosphere of the market on one hand, and the shopping on the other. You can't miss that with her.".

""Well, let's celebrate the Omer by saying blessings on Shabbat." Summer, strawberries and lots of red. "5 kilos is enough," the Jew states, and follows the last strawberry that filled the last corner of the box and will be corrected with two blessings.

 IMG_3831 (Copy)

In the pickle shop, a lively discussion is taking place between the supervisor and the shopkeeper. Should the weight of the boxes be calculated into the total weight the customer receives? Is it enough for signage to make it clear to shoppers that the box is taken from the customer's total weight? We were not left to hear the conclusion.

Very patiently, with a fifty shekel bill, Shmulik Deitch's son - Moishe - waited his turn, thus completing his Shabbat Kibbutz shopping. He also finished with two kilos of strawberries.

The symbol of the right, lawyer Itamar Ben-Gvir, is running around to complete the shopping. Two hands, four tasks. Among the pistachios and coriander, there is also paperwork to fax, an email to reply to, and back to the iron.

Last week we photographed the Gulbenzitz couple here. This week we encountered a diligent photographer who didn't let go of our camera. We returned fire, too - her and a woman. Minutes later, her husband clarified that he was not related, and that his wife was the sister of Zvika Gulbenzitz. Now welcome the Reichenbergs as well. We photographed them. To their base Peacefully.

Avraami Kliger is modest and not belligerent, demands peace and returns peace. Friday at the market, he maintains his composure and takes on a bit of illustration. Combines beautifully between quality time with his firstborn (without the evil eye), and the successful management (tap tap tap) of "English Update". Kliger is a brother.

Tsiki Frank saw me taking pictures and was impressed. It was important to him to emphasize that even if he buys newspapers at the market, he buys 'HaMvesher' and not any other.

""We carried it on our shoulders," said the man in the picture, and it was important to him to emphasize: "I keep the world cleaner, I don't use many plastic bags." We appreciated that.

Dov Eichler again (fourth time in the section), well, there's no escape. He synchronized the shopping list between Dov Heller and his wife Shoshi. Eichler - the son of - waited a long time for the return of his friend and confidant, musician and comedian Meir Weiner. Weiner had been on a tour abroad for the past month, and Eichler felt lonelier than ever. Here Weiner returned, restored the spirit of life to Eichler, and in this spirit of joy, the newly engaged Shmulik Avraham was called on their path. Welcome to the trio.

The puppy is named Oscar. And that's assuming you can call the tiny creature "dog," which looks more like a doll. It's not related to the coveted award, but it's garnering interest, and even personal branding in the form of an icon on the wall.

We're here not to let any sweet guy down. Even if you don't know him. You'll introduce him to us.

On Shabbat evening, Mehlab is more tired than ever. Shopping, cooking, mikveh, invited guests, and yeshiva students who will come to the "friends' party" that he will hold until dawn, subject to a list of wake-up songs that he will not give up at any cost.

Amidst the medley of colors on the bast shoes, a green kippah proudly adorning a Jewish head will stand out with special attention. "It doesn't matter what color the kippah is, what's under it is more important," the young man told us in broken Hebrew.

The rest of the Haredi warrior. The hat is more restful than ever.

""Look at him, he's taking pictures for 'making a market.'" When I approached them with the camera, they hurried to hide. Either for company or for a picture.

Burstein Jr. - of the legendary Avraham Leib - makes Dad's finishes: cashews, peaches and quince. Incidentally, Nutella Burstein is majoring in architecture and interior design. The work circle? Burstein is persistent.

The Sabbath announcers arrived. In a few minutes the market emptied. The owners of the basta explain to the avrechims the delay in closing: "The haredi buyers come at the last minute, you can't close in their faces." The avrechims fell silent and asked to hurry. "Write with you that they won't come to buy at the last minute. The desecration of the Sabbath by the sellers will be on their backs," the avrechim with the vest told me.

The market is emptying. The cyclists are speeding past us. We are in a hurry to move. On our way out, a spectacle that only the market can produce: Haredi and secularists are debating with the help of an advanced device when the Sabbath begins. Who is like your people?.

The streets are already empty. Shabbat dishes on the grill. The grandchildren are coming soon. A quick rest on the balcony, on a faithful stick and a sunset coffee.
