The dream of driverless cars is already here: Google announced that the cars it developed have crossed the 700,000-mile barrier on driverless roads - and without any accidents caused by the car.
The driverless car was equipped with a system of sensors, radars, and cameras, which were installed on the roof of a regular car that had undergone adjustments. Currently, the operator Google about 20 such cars.
In the video released by Google, you can see how the system learns to recognize and analyze hundreds of different objects, as well as a variety of human behaviors and roadside hazards. Once the system detects danger, it acts accordingly.
Despite the great progress in the development of the car, it must be remembered that it still faces many obstacles. Among them are technical, regulatory, and psychological limitations.
Autonomous driving is currently being conducted in only one city: Mountain View, California, where Google's headquarters are located. The city was mapped with extremely high precision for testing.
Another barrier is the psychological barrier, which can deter people from trusting computer software. But Google president Sergey Brin is unfazed by the obstacles and believes that by 2017 we will all be able to enjoy a driverless car.
