Immigration from Israel to Europe is increasing: Israel has sent 380 million sterile flies to Croatia, with the aim of helping to reduce the fruit fly population in the country's citrus orchards. The fly pupae were raised in the Bio-Bee laboratories at Kibbutz Sde Eliyahu and underwent a special sterilization process in the plant's radioactive facility, which operates under the supervision of the Israeli Atomic Energy Commission. After flying to the airport in Split, Croatia, and briefly organizing, they were dispersed throughout the orchards along the border of Croatia and Bosnia, driving away the harmful flies from the orchards, and helping farmers complete a successful growing season. The Bio-Fly project to combat fruit flies using natural biological methods is being successfully implemented in Israeli agriculture with the assistance and support of the Plant Protection Services at the Ministry of Agriculture and the Plant Council, and as part of it, tens of millions of sterile flies are dispersed twice a week in orchards, orchards and fields in the Arava, the Besor region, Lachish, the Valley of Springs and the Golan Heights. The goal is to minimize the use of pesticides to control fruit flies in the project areas. Following the success of the project, its expansion to additional agricultural areas is being considered.
