The IDF is dramatically reducing the territorial defense forces (GDDF) in localities across the country - focusing on the Judea and Samaria sector.

The move, officially defined as part of "operational considerations" and reorganization, includes reducing the number of soldiers and volunteers who have been securing the communities since the outbreak of the war.

According to a report on Channel 12, the motive for the move stems from a command decision seeking to change the manner of operation in the field.

According to sources in the security establishment, evidence has accumulated of abuse of authority and uniforms by some of those serving in the Judea and Samaria sector.

On the other hand, much evidence from recent events shows that the HaGamar fighters formed the central line of defense that prevented casualties in localities in the face of riots by Arab mobs.

As part of the reorganization, it was decided that any fighter who remains in the formation or requests to join it will undergo an unprecedented screening process - by the police and the Shin Bet, to ensure the absence of involvement in extremist activity.

A fighter who does not meet the criteria will be required to return his weapon and uniform immediately.

The decision is causing great anger in the settlements, since reducing their strength and casting doubt on the fighters' moral purity are seen as a direct attack on the defense capabilities of the settlements threatened by terrorist elements.

The IDF Spokesperson's Office responded: "In accordance with the assessment of the operational situation, it was decided to adjust the deployment of the General Staff of the IDF. The IDF manages the deployment of forces according to operational needs, while providing a response through the IDF and the defense departments. In some of the communities, regular soldiers and training were assigned to increase security.".
