Lee Ayish, a reporter for i24news, reported that retired police chief Ami Eshed is suing the Israel Police, the police spokesman, and the head of the spokespersons' division for half a million shekels.
The basis of the lawsuit is a publication by the Spokesperson's Unit regarding the accusations Ami Eshad made against the Israel Police after he resigned from it.
The publication states: Eshad "ended his position under circumstances that it is best not to elaborate on, including operational malfunctions that even cost human lives.".
Upon publication of the remarks, Eshad threatened to sue, demanding clarification, an apology, and compensation in the amount of 100,000 NIS: "Since the establishment of the Israel Police, there has not been such blatant, perverse, and low use of the spokesperson system.".
The Israel Police responded at the time to Eshed's threats: "We will stand up to this bravely. Every word that was said is the truth.".
Eshad has now filed his lawsuit in court.
