With the intention of maintaining the Air Force's 'operational focus' on the war being waged in various sectors, there will be no Air Force 'flyover' on Independence Day this year either.
Despite the cancellation of the ceremonial flypast, a "missing flypast" is expected to take place over the military cemeteries, Mount Herzl and Pilots' Mountain during Memorial Day, as a sign of respect for the fallen.
The decision to cancel the flight is based on two main reasons:
Security situation and operational readiness: The IDF and Air Force are in a high operational focus following the ongoing security tensions and the war. It was decided that it was right to direct all air and maintenance resources to defense and attack missions, and not to show-off events.
Home Front Command guidelines and gathering restrictions: Due to the situation, there are restrictions on gatherings in many places in the country. The Mets, by their very nature, attract crowds of citizens to observation points (such as beaches and parks), which creates a safety and security risk at this time.
