Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu supports the appointment of Doron Cohen to the position of Civil Service Commissioner.
In a statement issued today (Monday) by the Prime Minister's Office, it was stated: "Netanyahu has decided to bring forward the appointment of Doron Cohen to the position of Civil Service Commissioner.
""Doron Cohen brings with him a wealth of experience in both the public service and the business sector, and previously served as Director General of the Ministry of Finance, Director of the Government Companies Authority, Director General of the Israel Consumer Protection Agency, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Cellcom.".
""The appointment will be brought before the Civil Service Commission's Appointments Committee and then for government approval.".
At the beginning of last month, the High Court of Justice reversed its decision and ruled in a hearing with an expanded panel that Prime Minister Netanyahu can appoint a candidate for Civil Service Commissioner as he wishes - without the need for a competitive process. However, it was noted that the government should determine a clear appointment mechanism in the future.
Since June, Professor Daniel Hershkowitz has served as Acting Civil Service Commissioner, having previously served in this position between 2018-2024.
