Last night (Tuesday), the most significant assassinations were carried out since the beginning of the war with Iran: in addition to the two senior officials who were eliminated - Ali Larijani, number 2 in the Iranian leadership, and Basij commander Gholam Reza Soleimani - a number of other senior commanders in the Iranian regime were also assassinated.
The Basij commander was eliminated along with his deputy and about ten other senior members of the organization. In fact, most of the Basij leadership was wiped out tonight.
According to a report on Channel 12, the senior leaders of the oppressive organization fled from one hiding place to another, until they finally reached a tent complex in the city of Shiraz - where they set up a makeshift headquarters, from which they managed the oppression of Iranian citizens, in the mistaken hope that they would not be detected.
But last night, intelligence officers managed to find the exact location of the compound - which was attacked by the Air Force. All the senior officials present there were eliminated.
The assassination came amid the Basij's effort to combat attempts by Iranian protests to rise, by placing checkpoints on roads and intersections across Iran.
In parallel with this dramatic assassination, a security source told Channel 12 that the IDF attacked eight Basij checkpoints in Tehran this morning. A few days ago, it was reported that Israel had launched a suicide drone attack against Basij forces stationed at checkpoints throughout Iran.
The assassination of Larijani
Ali Larijani, the secretary of Iran's National Security Council, was assassinated while hiding with his son in a safe house near the capital Tehran. Larijani was considered the second-in-command of the Iranian leadership, after Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei.
After 'Am Kalavi', Larijani received from Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei the task of restoring the badly damaged Iranian regime. He took on many powers for himself, and was already considered one of the most powerful in the regime.
Therefore, his elimination is extremely significant. The IDF believes that this is a serious blow to Iran's ability to continue conducting the campaign.
According to the Channel 12 report, in order to eliminate Larijani, a special team was established in the Intelligence Department, whose specialty and job was to know where he was at any given moment. This is a very advanced intelligence capability of the Intelligence Directorate. Indeed, two and a half weeks have passed since the war began, and the entire Iranian leadership knows that it is in the crosshairs.
Last Wednesday, senior Islamic Jihad figures were also killed. Israel managed to locate the hideout apartment where they were hiding in the city of Karaj. The apartment was attacked and it appears that everyone was injured, including Akram Ajouri, a very senior figure in the organization, who fled from Judea and Samaria to Gaza, then from Gaza to Syria, and from there to Iran.
