An ultra-Orthodox man who was arrested for studying Torah and imprisoned in a military prison was released home last Shabbat evening, but was forced to leave the prison gates wearing a prisoner's uniform - after he was told that his personal clothing could not be found.
According to the report in Hamodia, the young man was arrested after failing to report to the draft office. Upon his release on Friday afternoon, he asked to receive his personal clothes that were deposited on the day he entered prison.
To his astonishment, the guards informed him that the clothes were gone.
With no choice, and out of a desire to get home before Shabbat, the young man was forced to leave the prison facility wearing a prisoner's uniform.
The incident caused a stir. The chairman of United Torah Judaism, MK Yitzhak Goldknopf, immediately contacted the office of Defense Minister Yisrael Katz, demanding an investigation into the circumstances of the humiliation.
The minister's office promised that the issue would be examined in depth.
