The most effective message: How exactly will Jewish construction stop terrorist attacks?

Even after the axis of evil and its branches in the north and south were dealt a severe blow, terrorism within Judea and Samaria still tries to raise its head, and unfortunately, it manages from time to time to shed Jewish blood.

After every attack, there is a pursuit of the terrorists, in order to eliminate them or put them in prison, but harming the murderers does not provide a true and decisive answer to terrorism, as long as there is soil that fosters and encourages them.

Arab terrorism is not like criminal activity, where you look for the perpetrator on duty. The terrorists are not individual criminals. They act as emissaries of the Arab people, and they have a goal – to make our lives miserable, to discourage us, and to make us retreat and abandon our homeland.

Commemoration and determination

The real answer to terrorism is to prove to our enemies that the terror they perpetrate achieves exactly the opposite. They must see that every attack causes us to put down even deeper roots in the land of our ancestors. Every Jewish dead becomes a symbol of Jewish determination, and leads to the establishment of another settlement and another neighborhood. The Arabs need to receive a clear and consistent message that terrorism only strengthens us, in the sense of "and when they punish it, it will increase and so it will break out.".

Some people don't understand the connection between terrorist attacks and Jewish construction. But this was precisely the policy at the beginning of the new settlement in the Land of Israel. Quite a few cities and towns were established in the wake of terrorist attacks, to commemorate the victims and as an expression of our determination to hold on to our land.

Establishing a community or neighborhood in memory of each terrorist victim is the right thing to do in itself, and it allows the public to channel their pain and anger into avenues of building and strengthening. But also in terms of the message to the enemy - it is the most effective message.

When our enemies see that every attack leads to the establishment of another Jewish settlement and neighborhood, they will not be running around the streets handing out candy following the terrorists' success in shedding Jewish blood. They will quickly realize that terrorist attacks harm them and their national interests first and foremost, and the message will quickly seep through to the potential attackers themselves.

Decisive response

And truly, Jewish tradition advocates the notion that the proper commemoration of our loved ones is by building and doing the things that were dear to the hearts of the fallen. When Jews are murdered, who had the building of the Land of Israel in their souls - there is no proper commemoration than a new wave of construction in the ancestral domain.

This is also the true comfort that can be given to their families, seeing that their sacrifice was not in vain, and that out of the heartbreak and pain, new life was created, and "children play in the streets" of the new neighborhood, which was built in their name.

After years in which the call to act in this direction was a cry in the wilderness, there is now a broad understanding that this is the appropriate course of action. Just as only the destruction of the Gaza Strip caused the terrorists and their supporters to stop rejoicing over the Simchat Torah massacre and instead curse those who initiated it, so accelerated Jewish construction in response to every attack will take the air out of the terrorists' motivational balloon. We just need to ensure that this policy is decisive, permanent, and consistent.
