You can celebrate sweet and healthy: a recipe for baked donuts enriched with protein

Veronica Meisler, clinical dietitian and consultant for Herbalife, offers a recipe for a protein-enriched donut that proves you can celebrate sweet treats without sacrificing balance.

With an airy texture, classic flavor, and a healthy touch, this is a donut that provides a good energy boost and is also suitable for those who maintain a healthy lifestyle.

List of ingredients for 12 units:

  • 1 ripe banana, mashed
  • White cheese cup 250 grams 5%
  • 100 grams cottage cheese 3-5%
  • 2 eggs + 1 additional egg white
  • 2 tablespoons canola/olive oil
  • 1/2 cup sugar (you can use 1/3 cup if you want it less sweet)
  • A pinch of salt
  • A teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 2–3 protein powder intended for baking (optional, but an upgrade)
  • 1/2 cup self-raising wholemeal flour
  • 1/2 cup self-raising white flour
  • 12 teaspoons light strawberry jam
  • Powdered sugar for decoration

How to prepare?

  1. Mix in a bowl: banana, white cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, egg white, oil, sugar, salt and vanilla.
  2. Add the flours (including the protein flour if using) and mix until smooth.
  3. Grease a muffin pan.
  4. Fill each cavity with batter to 3/4 of the height.
  5. Place a teaspoon of jam in the center of each muffin.
  6. Bake in a preheated oven at 180° for about 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  7. Cool and sprinkle with powdered sugar.
