After an emergency discussion held in the Labor and Welfare Committee, headed by MK Israel Eichler, the committee chairman succeeded in bringing representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Welfare to an agreement that a budget of tens of millions of NIS intended for welfare associations for food baskets and 'Easter flour' would be released soon.
The conclusion in the discussion was reached after strenuous activity that took place throughout a series of meetings and discussions, in which MK Eichler raised the plight of the associations that were promised a budget of tens of millions of shekels for food baskets for the needy.
""It is impossible that the poor and needy who need the budget the most are the ones who are withholding money. We are witnessing the phenomenon of 'after the poor, there will be no more poverty.' Poverty follows the poor - and they are unable to free themselves from it. How is it possible that such a phenomenon is possible that the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Social Affairs are unable to get along and release the budget for the poor?" Eichler cried.
The heads of the associations expressed their gratitude to the committee on behalf of hundreds of thousands of poor people for the good news that will lead to some relief through the food baskets they receive.
In addition, MK Eichler was assured by representatives of the ministry that even funds not used during the fiscal year would be kept for the food baskets - and would not return to the treasury like the rest of the budgets.
