The Ministry of Religious Services' Support Committee approved today (Sunday) the allocation of a budget for the construction of a new mikveh in the 'Ir Yamim' neighborhood in Netanya.
In a conversation between the Director General of the Ministry of Religious Services, Yehuda Avidan, and the Chairman of the Religious Council, Asher Ohana, it was agreed that the mikveh would bear the name 'Be'er Miriam' - in the name and in memory of the late mayor, Miriam Feiberg Ichar, may God have mercy on her.
The decision is intended to commemorate the many years of work of Feiberg Icher to strengthen the status of religious services in the city and make them accessible to all residents, while ensuring a high level of service that is appropriate for every sector.
The 'Ir Yamim' neighborhood is considered one of the most prestigious and developing neighborhoods in Israel, with over 4,500 housing units, alongside commercial centers, educational institutions, hotels and a vibrant community life.
Until now, there has been no active mikveh in the neighborhood, and the establishment of 'Be'er Miriam' will provide a significant spiritual and community response to the many residents in the area.
Director General of the Ministry of Religious Services, Yehuda Avidan: "The establishment of 'Beer Miriam' in the Ir Yamim neighborhood is an act of historical justice and gratitude. Miriam Feiberg Ichar, may God have mercy on her, was a groundbreaking leader who believed wholeheartedly in the importance of providing accessible and dignified religious services to all residents of Netanya. This mikveh is not only a vital response to the needs of the thousands of families in the new neighborhood, but also a physical, living, breathing candle, perpetuating the dedication of a precious woman who worked day and night for the city. The Ministry of Religious Services is committed to continuing to develop religious infrastructure throughout Israel, and especially in places that require an immediate and high-quality response.""
The chairman of the Netanya Religious Council, Rabbi Asher Ohana, thanked the director general of the ministry and said: "Today we close a circle of honor and appreciation. Miriam Feiberg Ichar not only built Netanya physically, but also strengthened its spirit and tradition. 'Beer Miriam' will be a symbol of the connection of luxury with holiness, and will suit the unique communal character of the city of days. We at the Religious Council are grateful for the quick response and the approved budget, and are committed to ensuring that the mikveh will be built to the highest standards, in honor of Miriam's glorious memory, and to creating a dignified purification experience for the public.""
