With the support of the Shas faction, the Knesset will vote and approve a series of cuts today (Wednesday) - to finance an additional 28 billion for defense as part of the "war budget.".
On the other hand, Maran HaGaradan Lando instructed Degel HaTorah Knesset members to "refrain from demonstrativeness" in voting on the budget today - which will in fact allow for a majority to approve the budget.
The Degel HaTorah faction stated: "As a result of the coalition not meeting its commitments, the Torah Grand Masters have instructed the faction members to abstain from voting on the defense budget in the first reading today. The amendment presented today is solely for the needs of the defense system, and does not contain any cuts in civilian items at all.".
""Before the vote in the committee and in the second and third reading - the Torah scholars will advise on the method of voting.".
Earlier today, Degel Chairman MK Moshe Gafni said during a tour of Torah and educational institutions in Rehovot: "I am here on a tour of Talmud Torah 'HaBa'er' in Rehovot and I am hearing various publications about how we voted today in the Knesset on the budget.
""I want to say that we are taking care of you, the Torah scholars and Torah students in the country, so that you have good conditions and that you can study and grow up to be great in Israel. And up to this moment, the decision has not been made by the great men of Israel on how we will vote today in the Knesset.".
