Did Aryeh Deri fold? Although Rami Sadan was not removed from his position as chairman of the Channel 10 News Board, the Shas faction only announced that it would "act" to have a decision made in the Economy Committee to remove him from his position - but refrained from mentioning the threats to boycott votes in the plenary or in committees • Sadan and the Channel 10 management were absent from the discussion on the appointment of the chairman of the board - and committee chairman Eitan Cabel closed the meeting in anger

The chairman of the Channel 10 News Board, Rami Sadan, hired the services of senior lawyer Ilan Bombach, in preparation for filing a lawsuit against those who spread the "plot" against him, as, according to him, the statements against Shas and Aryeh Deri that were published in his name are false.

Haredim 10 has learned that the lawsuit will be filed against Haaretz journalist Gidi Weitz, CEO of News 10 Golan Yochpaz, and Channel 10 CEO Yossi Warshavsky.

Rami Sadan refused to respond to a request from the Haredim 10 website.

In an open letter he sent to Shas, Sadan wrote on Thursday: "The board meeting where I supposedly said shocking things was 10 days ago. How come they didn't come out right away and say it, but only after I was elected to the position? Is this credibility? Were your eyes blinded by the sight of lies? Of all the false quotes, the only word I mentioned was 'elite'.".

""'Shas' or 'Deri' were not mentioned at all! I said so and I say it now too that Channel 10 must be opened not only to the elites, but to all publics: the Haredi, the Sephardi, the settler, the Russian and the Arab. A channel that only appeals to the elites will not exist. Those were my words and nothing more. The complete opposite of everything that was quoted.".

Faction members received an update

Meanwhile, at the end of a lengthy meeting of the Shas faction at the Interior Ministry, the Shas faction announced that it will "act" tomorrow (Tuesday) in the Knesset's Economics Committee to have a decision made to remove Rami Sadan from the position of chairman of the board of directors of News 10.

Shas Chairman Aryeh Deri met today for another conversation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the government meeting and again demanded the dismissal of Rami Sadan, due to statements attributed to him in the Haaretz newspaper and by the CEO of News 10 against the Shas movement and "the thief Aryeh Deri.".

The party's statement said that "Shas MKs will act tomorrow at the Economy Committee meeting so that the committee will make a decision to remove Rami Sadan from his position.".

The announcement did not say that Shas MKs would continue their protest and would be absent from the Knesset plenum and its committees.

The statement further stated that "the faction members received a legal update regarding the petition filed with the High Court of Justice against Sadan's election. The court required the state to respond within a week as to why an interim order was not issued against the appointment and within a month to respond as to why a conditional order was not issued against Sadan's appointment.".

Cable shoe discussion in anger

The Knesset's Economics Committee, headed by MK Eitan Cabel, convened today for an urgent discussion on what was defined as the appointment of a chairman for the Channel 10 news company and ensuring press freedom on commercial news channels.

However, Chairman Cabel closed the meeting a few minutes after it opened, after it became clear immediately at the beginning of the discussion that Rami Sadan and the Channel 10 management were absent.

""I asked to convene a discussion on the recent events surrounding the appointment of the chairman of the Channel 10 board of directors, and the things he said or did not say," began Chairman Cabel, "but even before that, I view with great severity the decision of Channel 10 management not to attend the discussion. The committee, and I personally, have worked hard to assist Channel 10, and the absence is a step that is not right, even from a public perspective.".

Cabel announced with great anger that he was closing the meeting and made it clear that he did not intend to move this to the agenda.

""Rami Sadan also suddenly informed me that he is sick, and I do not intend to give in to anyone. This discussion will take place in the coming days in the presence of all the parties involved in the matter and who were invited to the discussion today. We will not respect anyone who does not respect us," he said.
