
Captain Shahar Gamla, 23, from Moshav Nator in the Golan Heights, deputy platoon commander in the 'Egoz' unit, a commando formation, died on Saturday from his wounds at Rambam Hospital, after being seriously injured by an explosive drone strike in battle in southern Lebanon.
Shahar was critically injured last Thursday by a Hezbollah drone strike in southern Lebanon. The incident was reported before the start of Shabbat, when Shahar was still seriously injured and doctors were fighting for his life in the hospital.
This afternoon - the doctors were forced to declare him dead, and a message was delivered to his family.
The Golan Regional Council announced this evening (Saturday night) "with great sadness the fall of Captain Shahar Gamla, an officer in the Egoz Patrol, who was seriously injured in combat in Lebanon on Friday night.".
Shahar is the son of Yishai and Leah (Leahle), director of the children and youth department at the Golan Community Center, and older brother to Rotem and Nitzan.
The council noted that Shahar's roots "are planted deep in the Golan soil that he loved.".
Gamla's family chose to donate his organs, thereby continuing to save the lives of others.
The Golan Regional Council said: "The Golan community embraces Lahla, Yishai and the children, the extended family in Moshav Keshet and the Natur community.".
It was also stated: "The council and the entire Golan salute the IDF soldiers who continue to defend the country even today.".
The head of the Golan Regional Council, Uri Kelner, paid tribute to him: "With a heavy heart we say goodbye to Captain Shahar Gamla, a son of the Golan. Since October 7, Shahar fought wherever the State of Israel needed him, with heroism and determination. Even in the most difficult moments of pain, his family chose with nobility of soul to donate his organs, an act that expresses his spirit and values.".
The funeral of Shahar Gamla will be held tomorrow in Moshav Keshet. .
