Education Minister Rabbi Rafi Peretz sharply attacked MK Yair Lapid this morning (Monday), who announced that he would not apologize to Rabbi Peretz, even after it became clear that the quotes brought to Channel 13 against the preparatory school he heads were false and have no basis.
""Yesh Atid and its leader are a box of gel for smearing and incitement that at the end of the day is washed off with cold water," said Rabbi Peretz. "Yair, apart from pulling a pen, you have contributed nothing to the people of Israel. While I was educating, commanding and building settlements, you were a storyteller, a presenter for banks, a hotbed for stand-ups.".
Rabbi Peretz added: "You are a movement and a person whose entire goal is to deepen the division and polarization in the people of Israel, not inclusive Judaism. You are a black-shirted luminary whose entire legacy is one big zero.".
Last night, Yair Lapid tweeted: "Before Sharvi Peretz demands an apology from him, before he condemns Rabbi Tau. This is your yeshiva. This is your rabbi. You cannot continue to be the Minister of Education for even another minute.".
This morning, Lapid refused to apologize.
In an interview with Dov Gilhar on Channel 2, Lapid was asked whether, after News 13 clarified that Rabbi Assaf Naumburg of the 'Ezem' seminary did not say what was attributed to him by reporter Omri Maniv, he intended to apologize for attacking Education Minister Rabbi Rafi Peretz, supposedly defining the secularists as "evil," but Lapid made it clear that he had no intention of retracting it.
In his remarks, Lapid reiterated his claims against Rabbi Peretz as someone who wants a Halacha state.
Gilhar again asked whether, regarding the specific claim regarding the false accusations leveled against Rabbi Rafi Peretz, there is a chance of hearing an apology or retraction from him.
Lapid reiterated that he sees no reason for such an apology and referred Gilhar to the figure of Rabbi Zvi Tau, Rabbi Peretz's rabbi, as an extremist.
Lapid insisted: "This man cannot be the Minister of Education of the State of Israel.".
