MK Eitan Cabel from Labor responded this morning (Friday) to the party's central decision to approve Chairman Avi Gabbay's demand to reserve candidates on the Knesset list.
In an interview with Nissim Mashal on 103fm, Cabel first wanted to mention that he was the one who led to Gabbay's election to the position of chairman in the first place.
""Without my support, he would not have been elected," he claimed. "Gabai sits on the seat of Ben-Gurion and Rabin in a magnificent party founded by the state, which is now receiving seven seats in the polls.".
Yesterday you told the collector, 'We were wrong to elect you.' But he was elected through a democratic process.
""True, but I ask you, Nissim, if your show's ratings drop significantly - even by almost 100 percent, will you remain in your position with all the niceties? Especially when we are dealing with matters of such fate. The fact is that we brought Gabbay as a crutch for the Labor Party. He was a very great hope that disappointed.".
""With you on the radio, if you make a mistake, you move and try to change a program, a slot, and more. Here we have a chance to get out of this crisis. I'm not ready to die hugging you. We made a problematic mistake that could eliminate and bring down this great party that the state founded.".
And in general, it could be that Chakabel is attacking Gabbay only because he himself may not be elected to the next Knesset. Isn't that right?
Cabel firmly argued that this was not the case: "I really want to be elected to the Knesset, but I am not afraid of not being elected. If I may boast, I served a magnificent term, but that is not the reason I am leading this whole process.".
""Beyond that, the problem is not getting into the top ten, but the problem is that we may not pass the threshold," said Cabel.
He claims that he never dreamed that the Labor Party would not have a majority in Givatayim, that the Red Haifa would disappear, and that the Broadcasting Authority would close. And no - he does not believe in polls. "The polls are fixed. We have eight seats, but there is always a gap to our disadvantage between the polls and the actual results.".
Why weren't you able to convince your friends to go with you and fight the tax collector?
""You know, that's how you die. People always tell themselves the story. Yes, I'm a brave man. If there had been a secret ballot yesterday, I have no doubt we would have won. As I said, I'm the man who led him to his seat. I never asked him for anything.
""As chairman of the economic committee and chairman of the tycoons' investigation committee, I had a glorious term. I have nothing to be ashamed of. What's more, not everything is always personal. Sometimes things are real.".
