The extraordinary demand, reported in the New York Times, marks an escalation in the pressure being exerted on the terrorist organization to accept the ceasefire outline.

This is apparently a symbolic move, at a time when Israel is seeking complete disarmament of Hamas.

According to the report, the demand is considered a symbolic and humiliating move towards senior Hamas officials.

It was also reported that the demand to hand over personal weapons is not a security issue, but rather constitutes a lever of psychological pressure. Its purpose is to make it clear to the officials that their status and security in Qatar are not taken for granted, and that there is international pressure on the host country, led by the US, to bring about results in the negotiations.

Khalil al-Hayya is the head of the negotiating delegation, Zaher Jabarin is one of the founders of the organization's military wing in Judea and Samaria, and Muhammad Ismail Darwish is Hamas's main liaison with Iran and Turkey.
