At the ceremony announcing the new settlement of Doran in the Hebron Hills, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich revealed today (Tuesday) that a historic move was completed last night, in which the Hebron Municipality was stripped of all planning and construction powers granted to it under the Hebron Agreement 30 years ago.
The move was made following a cabinet decision that was initiated by Minister Smotrich and approved several months ago.
Last night, the Supreme Planning Council made the decisions necessary to complete the actual process.
The meaning of the decision is that planning and construction authorities in the Jewish settlement of Hebron and the holy sites, including the Tomb of the Patriarchs, are no longer in the hands of the Arab Hebron Municipality, but return to the full responsibility of the State of Israel.
