National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir announced this morning (Wednesday) that he had contacted Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich with a request to meet in the coming hours - with the aim of formulating a common position against the hostage deal that is taking shape.
However, those around Minister Smotrich denied the allegations. "We have not received a call from Ben Gvir - and no meeting has been scheduled with him today. There is a briefing by Ben Gvir to the media about a meeting that was not scheduled. The issue of victory in Gaza is too significant and the lives of the hostages are too precious to play a game of briefings in the media. The Minister of Finance has been working on this issue with full force and seriousness for quite some time now.".
Minister Ben-Gvir's office responded to the denial and published the message sent this morning to Smotrich's office, in an attempt to coordinate the meeting.
The documentation indicates that the time the message was sent was after Ben Gvir's appeal was published.
Political reporter Daphna Liel wrote: "This morning, Ben Gvir's office contacted Smotrich. He simply doesn't want to be part of a move that Ben Gvir is leading.".
At the same time, it must be noted that the request, as can be seen, was for a meeting without details about what, so the response from Smotrich's entourage that there was no request for the establishment of a common axis is correct.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa'ar responded: "There is a large majority in the government and also among the people for the plan to release the hostages. If there is an opportunity to do so - it must not be missed!""
Minister Amichai Shikli responded to Saar: "The outline was not presented to the government at all.".
Against the backdrop of the political conflict, opposition leader Yair Lapid informed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that the Yesh Atid party would provide a safety net for the government in the event of a hostage deal, even if the move would lead to the withdrawal of the Otzma Yehudit and Religious Zionist parties.
Lapid wrote: "Netanyahu, compared to Ben-Gvir and Smotritz's 13 fingers - you have 23 fingers from me as a safety net for a hostage deal. Everyone needs to be brought home now.".
The families' headquarters said: "Smotrich and Ben Gvir have forgotten what it means to be Jewish, and what the values of good and mutual guarantee upon which the State of Israel was founded mean. We have only one word for them this morning - shame.".
