According to a report this evening (Monday) on Channel 2, Netanyahu was not summoned as a suspect, but will provide testimony in the case that has been under investigation for more than a year and concerns the issuance of diplomatic passports in violation of procedures.
Netanyahu is in Israel these days, having arrived for his brother Avner's wedding - which was canceled due to the war with Iran.
He is expected to give his testimony to the police in the coming days.
In August 2024, investigators from the National Fraud Investigations Unit at Lahav 433 raided the Foreign Ministry headquarters in Jerusalem, searched the offices, and seized materials, as part of an investigation into suspicions of issuing diplomatic passports to those who were not entitled to them.
It is suspected that the passports were intended for those who did not meet the requirements for receiving a diplomatic passport, including the Prime Minister's son.
The investigation was opened after a report in the Haaretz newspaper, according to which diplomatic passports were issued to Likud activists and also to Netanyahu Jr.
Then Minister Cohen, who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, responded: "Those who were approved for passports according to the procedures are only three mayors who, by virtue of their position, are responsible for international relations. They join other mayors who were approved for passports at different times, such as the mayor of Tel Aviv. Regarding Yair Netanyahu, the approval was given in January, for security reasons.".
