Lt. Col. (res.) Yoaz Hendel, former Minister of Communications in the Bennett-Lapid government of change and currently a reserve battalion commander, today (Sunday) addressed Naftali Bennett's proposal to end the war in Gaza - and sharply criticized it.
""I heard Bennett's plan to end the war," Handel wrote. "Remaining only in a limited perimeter is a strategic error.".
Hendel added: "As I have been saying for the past year, at the end of the war it is imperative to hold the high ridge (Gaza's Mount Hermon) in the northern Gaza Strip, including the Sivbon area. Otherwise there will be a constant threat to Sderot and the Enrichment Route. The Philadelphia route, which is now paved and free of the Palestinian Authority, if abandoned will once again become a conduit for terrorism. And most importantly, free movement for raids like in Judea and Samaria.".
Last night, in an interview with "Meet the Press" on Channel 12, Bennett proposed going for a comprehensive deal to release all the hostages, while standing on a security perimeter according to the terms of the deal.
In response to Amit Segal's question about Hamas's opposition to remaining in the perimeter, Bennett replied: "There is a gray area, they did not conduct such negotiations.".
He said, "I'm not crazy about this, but they're offering us either a shuffle or nothing.".
