In international cooperation between the Israel Police and the authorities in El Salvador, where Eliezer Rumpler was arrested after attempting to escape from Guatemala - a senior member of the 'Pure Heart' sect, who fled the country in 2020, landed in Israel last night after being indicted for serious offenses of child abuse.

After a precedent-setting extradition process approved by the court in El Salvador, the investigative teams of the Jerusalem Metropolitan Police's Fraud Unit set out to bring him to Israel on a complex journey that lasted over 30 hours, with the participation of Interpol and the assistance of several police forces around the world, in the midst of the war with Iran and the threat of missile fire at the State of Israel.

Upon landing in Israel last night, the suspect was brought for questioning at the offices of the Jerusalem District Central Unit.

This evening - at the end of Shabbat - the suspect will be brought to the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court for a hearing on the police's request to extend his detention, and later, an amended indictment is expected against him by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office.

The 'Pure Heart' case, which has been under investigation by the Jerusalem Police's fraud unit for many years, deals with the cult's activities and severe harm to helpless children, who were recently officially defined as victims of human trafficking.

In 2020, Rumpler was arrested in Israel. At that time, upon landing in the country, he was put on trial by the Jerusalem District Attorney's Office, but was later released to house arrest by the court - and shortly thereafter fled the country.

In recent years, representatives of the Jerusalem Police Department have traveled to Guatemala to strengthen cooperation with local authorities, and security forces in Guatemala even conducted a raid on the cult's compound, during which dozens of victims were rescued.

Recently, a significant breakthrough was recorded after Rumpler was arrested in El Salvador, where he fled after another escape attempt from Guatemala, and the International Department of the State Attorney's Office filed an official extradition request, and as a precedent, the court in El Salvador decided to approve his extradition to Israel.
