Shas Chairman, MK Aryeh Deri, estimated this morning (Tuesday) in an interview on Galei Tzahal that the Netanyahu government will maintain its stability in the coming months and that the Jewish Home faction will remain in the coalition.
""I don't see Bennett resigning. There's a difference between saying and doing. In my opinion, this government will continue in the coming months. They will find the formula for a deal that Bennett can live with. They will complete the circle and find some formula regarding Israeli Arabs, if there is a deal at all.".
When asked about the possibility of Shas entering the coalition, he said: "I'm not there, I don't buy it that much. There are no explorations about entering the government because it's not practical.".
Regarding relations with the Prime Minister, Deri said: "Apart from a happy holiday greeting, we did not discuss anything with the Prime Minister.".
During the interview, Deri was asked about the appointment of the Gaon Rabbi Shalom Cohen as president of the Council of Sages - and replied: "There is no substitute for Rabbi Ovadia zt"l.".
Regarding the statement that this was his personal appointment, Deri responded angrily: "This is spin. A lie and a falsehood. Rabbi Shimon Adani, who is older than Rabbi Shalom Cohen, traveled from Bnei Brak to Jerusalem to urge Rabbi Shalom Cohen to accept the appointment. Rabbi Cohen refused, claiming that Rabbi Adani was older, but Rabbi Adani insisted that Rabbi Shalom Cohen accept the appointment, because he is a priest and Rosh Yeshiva head.".
When asked about the Chief Justice, the Grand Jurist Amar, he said: "His honor is in his place, I am in contact with him, but he is not a member of the Council of Elders. He is not part of the party leadership.".
