Coastal District police from the Nahariya station, together with the Border Guard tactical brigade, arrested a 29-year-old Haredi, a resident of the Haredi settlement of Rechsim, in whose vehicle a blue police siren, drugs in commercial quantities, and documentation of transactions in which he served as a courier were seized - and at the end of the police investigation, an indictment was filed against him and a request was made to detain him until the end of the proceedings.
The arrest was made after a police officer driving near Kibbutz Eilon in May noticed a driver committing traffic violations. When he approached him and asked to check his details, he recognized that his vehicle contained a large sum of money. The suspect attacked the officer, injured him, and fled on foot into a nearby forest, abandoning his vehicle.
Patrol officers from the Nahariya station, with the assistance of a team of fighters from the Border Guard tactical brigade, were called to the scene, and after searching, they were able to locate and arrest the suspect a short time later.
A search of his vehicle yielded bags containing a substance suspected of being a commercial-grade marijuana intended for distribution, thousands of shekels in cash suspected of being proceeds from drug trafficking - and a blue police siren.
In light of the findings, an intensive investigation was opened, during which investigators were able to prove that the suspect ran a drug trafficking network as a courier for many clients.
His detention has been extended from time to time, and yesterday the Israel Police Prosecution Unit filed an indictment against the suspect and a request for detention until the end of the proceedings, for a series of serious offenses: drug trafficking, assaulting a police officer, obstructing a police officer in the performance of his duty, reckless driving, driving while disqualified, dangerous overtaking, excessive speed, possession of drugs not for personal consumption, and obstruction of justice.
