Matan, 25, from Kibbutz Nir Oz, was kidnapped on October 7. He knew how to write in Arabic even before his abduction. At the same time, the security establishment estimates that other abductees wrote similar notes. It was also reported that bottles of urine with Matan's DNA were also found in the area.
The note was found in a large underground Hamas compound in the Gaza Strip.
The note was passed on to his mother, Einav Tsengauker, who recognized his handwriting.
Haaretz reported that the note was found by fighters in a large underground compound where the hostages who were killed, in addition to senior Hamas officials, were being held. It is estimated that the note was written before the other hostages in the compound were killed.
