Rescue forces called to the scene were forced to declare one of the workers dead and evacuated his friend, who suffered injuries to his chest and limbs, to Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.

The police have launched an investigation. The officers arrested a tractor driver at the scene for questioning.

MDA paramedic Harel Sasson and senior MDA medic Gamliel Cohen said: "When we arrived at the construction site, we saw a difficult sight. Two workers were trapped under a sand mound that had collapsed. They led us to the workers and noticed that the most seriously injured of them, a man about 35 years old, was unconscious. While the firefighters were carrying out the rescue operations, we began to perform medical examinations, but unfortunately his injuries were critical and we had to declare him dead at the scene.

""The second injured person, a 28-year-old man, was fully conscious. We provided him with initial medical treatment on the scene, and after he was rescued, we evacuated him in an MDA intensive care unit to the hospital in a mild condition.".

Eliyahu Tzarfati, Akiva Kaufman and Elhanan Oshri, paramedics from United Hatzalah, added: "According to their friends, a heavy concrete sewer pipe fell on them from a crane. One of the workers died at the scene due to the nature of the severe injuries he suffered. We also provided assistance at the scene to another worker who was trapped in the pit.".

Rescue paramedic Eliyahu Simhon, and rescue medics Daniel Horberg and Lipa Yakubovich: "When we arrived at the scene of the incident, the workers directed us to a pit, where two workers were trapped under a mound of dirt that collapsed on them. After complex rescue operations by firefighters, we, together with rescue and MDA medics and paramedics, provided initial medical treatment to a 28-year-old man with injuries to his chest and limbs, and he was evacuated in a minor condition for further treatment at Sheba Hospital in Tel Hashomer.

""Unfortunately, paramedics were forced to pronounce the second worker, a 34-year-old man, dead at the scene.""
