A political source referred this morning (Monday) to the political-security cabinet discussion that unanimously approved last night the operational plan proposed by Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir to defeat Hamas in Gaza and return the hostages - "which is completely consistent with what the Prime Minister said in recent months.".

The source emphasized that although the cabinet approved the possibility of humanitarian distribution - if necessary - which would prevent Hamas from taking control of the supply and destroy its governmental capabilities, it was noted in the discussion that at this stage there is enough food in Gaza.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said in the discussion that this is a good plan because it can achieve both goals - defeating Hamas and returning the hostages. He made it clear that the combat plan differs from its predecessors in that we are moving from the method of raids to conquering the territories and remaining in them.

Netanyahu also added that he continues to promote the Trump plan to enable the voluntary departure of Gazans, and that talks are underway on the issue with several countries.

The Chief of Staff said in the discussion: "We are on the path to defeating Hamas, while this will help return the kidnapped.".

The plan will include, among other things, the occupation of the Strip and the holding of the territories, the movement of the Gazan population south for its protection, the denial of Hamas' ability to distribute humanitarian supplies, and powerful attacks against Hamas - actions that will help to defeat it.

The debate over humanitarian aid

At the cabinet meeting, a debate developed over the possibility of introducing humanitarian aid to Gaza. Minister Ben Gvir said in the discussion: "I don't understand why they need to be given humanitarian aid. They have enough food there. We need to bomb Hamas' food stores." The Chief of Staff responded: "These ideas endanger us.".

Minister Ben Gvir responded to Zamir: "Chief of Staff, we have no legal obligation to provide them with food. Those you are fighting have enough food.".

At this point, Netanyahu intervened and said: "Excuse me, every minister here can state his position. You can say that you disagree. If they say things that are against the law, it is the role of the Attorney General to clarify the law for them.".

The attorney general said that "I want to emphasize that we are committed to international law," and the government secretary concluded by saying: "Let it be stated for the record that no minister intends to violate international law.".

As part of the preparations for the move, a large-scale mobilization of reserves is expected. The reserve forces will be divided into battalions that will be integrated into the fighting on the ground and brigades that will take the place of the regular units that will enter Gaza.
