US President Donald Trump has decided to fire his national security adviser, Mike Walz, among other things, because he revealed that he had held talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the possibility of military action in Iran.
'The Washington Post reported today (Saturday) from two official administration sources that Walz and Netanyahu held several conversations before the prime minister's visit to the White House in February, which angered the American president.
The Prime Minister's Office denied the allegations: "The Prime Minister has not had intensive contact with Mike Walz on the issue of Iran. Netanyahu, Walz, and Witkoff have had one conversation since his visit to the White House - which did not deal with Iran.".
According to the Washington Post, the factor that tipped the scales in favor of the advisor's dismissal was the secret chat scandal last month - when the editor of The Atlantic magazine was mistakenly added to a secret group where senior administration officials discussed the Yemen crisis.
On Thursday, the president announced the removal of Walz from his position - and his appointment as US ambassador to the United Nations. Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as his replacement for the time being.
