Singer and songwriter Udi Davidi performs a Hasidic song for the first time: Just a few months after releasing the album 'Waiting for Silence', which was crowned 'Album of the Year' by many media outlets, he is launching a new single, together with the Hasidic choir 'Yedidim'.
This is the song "If I Said, 'My Legs Are Broken,'" which was composed by Rabbi Meir Shapira of Lublin - Rosh Yeshiva of the Chachmei Lublin and founder of Daf Yomi, whose death anniversary falls this week.
""When I heard the song, and the story behind it, I was very moved. It was clear to me that one day I would release this song, in honor and memory of Rabbi Meir zt"l, thanks to whom millions of Jews study the Daf Yomi," says Udi Davidi.
The song was first performed by Udi in an acoustic version on the album 'I Will Wait for Him' by the band Halev Vemmayan, which included melodies that survived the Holocaust.
Rabbi Meir had no children, and he used to say that he had two sons: the Yeshiva of the Chachmei of Lublin and the Daf Yomi, which he founded, and thanks to which millions of Jews learn Gemara every day.
Udi Davidi is currently working on an album of original songs, which will include Shabbat songs with original melodies, prayer songs, and more. "If I Said" is the first single from the upcoming album.
