Moti Castel publishes: Sinwar is a "sober" leader who will not go to war, Hamas is "restrained and deterred" and avoiding assassinations: Ronen Bar's positions in security discussions before October 7 are revealed - and contradict his affidavit in the High Court of Justice
Amazing things said by ousted Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar in cabinet meetings and situation assessments before the October 7 massacre - contradict his affidavit to the High Court of Justice.
According to the report of Moti Castel, Channel 14's political correspondent, the ousted Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar, assessed that Hamas leaders are rational and therefore will not try to advance a decisive move against Israel.
These were the main positions of the head of the Shin Bet on the Gaza issue:
● January 23: In a cabinet discussion, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar stated that the entry of workers from Gaza into Israel is what is preventing the campaign, and recommended continuing this trend.
● That same month, the prime minister suggested to the head of the Shin Bet that he eliminate Salah al-Arouri, but the Shin Bet claimed that it was not right to do so.
● February 2023: In a cabinet discussion, Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar assessed that Sinwar is a sober leader "who will not go to a war of revival" and that now "Sinwar has no reason to change anything.".
● March 2023: In a cabinet discussion that took place, the head of the Shin Bet and the head of the Military Intelligence again assessed that Hamas is restrained and deterred, and that the organization strives to ignite Judea and Samaria and maintain peace and stability in Gaza.
● June 2023In a situation assessment that took place, Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi and the head of the Shin Bet assessed that Israeli deterrence had improved significantly after Operation Shield and Arrow.
The head of the Shin Bet assessed that the enemy leaders are rational and therefore will not attempt to advance a decisive move against Israel.
Ronen Bar, of course, did not mention all of this in the affidavit that we were all exposed to.
These things directly contradict Bar's claim in the affidavit that "in 2023, he 'forcefully' warned the political echelon about the worsening security situation.".
