The Haredi fighter: Legal Advisor to the Prime Minister, Gali Baharav Mayara, announced today (Tuesday) that the government must promote the imposition of personal sanctions on "draft dodgers.".
A letter sent to the Ministry of Defense's legal advisor presented various steps proposed by professional bodies that could be taken immediately to fill the ranks of the army.
Among other things, the Ombudsman proposes: denial of housing benefits - assistance with rent and purchasing an apartment, by virtue of the procedures of the Ministry of Housing; denial of benefits from the Ministry of Economy for small and medium-sized businesses; and conditioning property tax discounts on the applicant not evading military service.
According to Dr. Gil Limon, the Deputy Attorney General who signed the letter, "According to the data presented by the army, it appears that in the absence of effective enforcement measures, the rate of reporting from this group is negligible. As a result, the burden of military service arising from the needs of the war, imposed on the public serving regularly and in the reserves, is magnified.".
He clarified that "beyond the fact that this is an extremely serious violation of equality, the army is facing a significant shortage of the manpower it needs to fulfill its missions. The systematic and widespread evasion of military service is therefore harming the security of the state.".
He signed his letter: "We are grateful for bringing the matter once again to the Minister of Defense in order to advance it with the necessary urgency.".
